Our Story

Built for Miles Together

Red Maple K9 Gear builds premium waterproof dog gear for dogs and people who go farther.

Red Maple K9 Gear is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business in Michigan. We handcraft collars, leashes, long lines, and field-ready gear made with genuine BioThane® webbing for the trail, the field, training days, travel, and everyday life with a good dog.

We build equipment for use, not for display.

Dogs do not live in controlled conditions. They run through wet grass, cross muddy trails, swim, train, hunt, work, ride in trucks, and come home dirty. Their gear should be ready for all of it.

Built for Real Conditions

Dog gear has to work when hands are wet, weather changes, and the day does not go according to plan.

We choose materials for the way equipment is actually used: cold-weather walks, muddy training grounds, wet hands, water, sand, travel, and daily wear. Genuine BioThane® webbing and other waterproof materials clean easily and help avoid the moisture, odor, and maintenance often associated with traditional materials.

Materials and components are selected according to the demands placed on the finished piece: load, environment, corrosion exposure, fit, handling, and long-term service.

Our goal is simple: build dependable gear that is easy to care for and ready when conditions are less than ideal.

Engineered With Purpose

Every Red Maple K9 product begins with a practical question:

Would we run it on our own dog?

If the answer is no, it does not move forward.

We approach design with an engineer’s mindset. That means purposeful material selection, straightforward construction, and components chosen for actual function rather than appearance alone.

We publish working-load limits and destructive-test results for applicable hardware and configurations, so customers can see the reasoning behind the gear—not simply take our word for it.

The result is equipment designed to handle wet trails, field work, training sessions, and the daily miles in between.

Materials That Earn Their Place

There is no one-material-fits-all answer to durable dog gear.

Across our products, we use solid brass, marine bronze, 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel components. Each material is selected according to where it sits in the design, what it carries, and the environment it will encounter.

Solid brass offers a warm, timeless appearance, dependable durability, and strong corrosion resistance while developing a natural patina with use.

Marine bronze is selected for applications where a traditional copper-alloy finish and elevated corrosion resistance matter. It brings the character of heritage hardware with performance suited to wet, muddy, and high-humidity environments.

Stainless steel is used where high strength and corrosion resistance are especially important. For exposed components subject to moisture, salt, abrasion, and regular outdoor use, we use 316 stainless steel where the application calls for it. For enclosed components, such as appropriate Chicago-screw assemblies, 304 stainless steel provides dependable corrosion resistance and serviceable construction.

Material selection is intentional, not generic. Product pages identify the materials, hardware, working-load limits, and configuration details that apply to the gear you are considering.

Gear by Series

Each series is designed around a different kind of use:

  • TrailSide Series for everyday miles, hikes, travel, and dependable daily handling
  • BirdLine Series for upland work, training, and time in the field
  • Tandem Series for service and support partnerships
  • The Duke Collection for gear shaped by the dog and the story behind Red Maple K9 Gear

The common standard is straightforward: practical equipment, clear specifications, and construction that makes sense for the job.

Supporting Service Dog Teams

Red Maple K9 Gear is proudly service-disabled veteran-owned.

We believe dependable equipment should be available to the teams who rely on it most. As the business grows, we are committed to supporting organizations that provide service dogs to disabled veterans through donations, partnership opportunities, and qualifying gear-support programs.

That commitment is a natural extension of why we build this gear in the first place: dependable equipment for dogs and people working together.

Built to Last

A lot of everyday dog gear is designed around relatively controlled conditions. Wet trails, muddy fields, repeated cleaning, and hard daily use ask more of the materials and construction.

We build differently.

Red Maple K9 Gear is designed for years of use, with materials chosen for their role, practical construction, and specifications that are openly explained. We want customers spending less time replacing gear and more time outdoors, working, training, traveling, and living alongside their dogs.

For the Dogs That Matter

We do not build gear for display.

We build it for use.

For miles. For training. For field days. For everyday life. For the dogs that make it all worth it.
